Ever since I was a child I have been tinkering and designing. Back then it was with Legos and Erector sets. Nowadays I use 3D printing and metal to make my crazy ideas come to life. I have always liked to take on new challenges and make things my way. Often, the things I dream up don’t exist yet. I have been expanding my skills over the years and have been able to make sketches and ideas come to life in ways I never imagined.
My skills for designing and advanced fabrication skyrocketed during the early days of the COVID pandemic. It all started when a friend of mine gave me a non-functioning 3D Printer. I still have the printer, but it is far from the same. As my knowledge and capabilities grew so did my need for a more robust printer, so I made necessary upgrades.
My passion for the automotive industry and racing drove me to expand my CAD and fabrication abilities farther than ever before. I spent roughly two years developing my own sim racing motion platform. I wanted a setup that sourced as many components as possible from the US. So, I slowly bought components and engineered my own from scratch. A majority of the components found in my actuators are 3D printed. With most of the physical work done it was a few weeks of figuring out the wiring and necessary programing to make my creation come to life. The motion platform helped me to learn what the capabilities of 3D printed components and the kind of stresses they can endure. I learned so much from this project, not just about CAD and 3D printing but also about design capabilities.
Fast forward several years and a couple hundred hours in CAD, I have started to use my skills to develop other useful tools and components. With the addition of a 3D scanner and a CNC machine to my arsenal, the limits of what I can do have been pushed even farther than before. Whether it be improvements around the house or prototypes for performance racecars, I like to take on all sorts of challenges. In 2023 I established Twin Crest Innovations LLC in hopes to share my skills and knowledge with the world around me.
